Byrun Boutin-Maloney’s visual art is distinguished by vibrant colors, spiritual undertones, and bold black outlines reminiscent of stained glass windows. His work merges dreamlike imagery with layered meanings drawn from mysticism, mythology, and symbolic language.
Byrun's art is strikingly original, synthesizing a deeply personal style influenced by brut art, automatic creation, subconscious channeling, and outsider traditions. Each piece is a feast for the eyes—intense, evocative, and overflowing with layered content. Endlessly curious, he draws inspiration from life itself and fluidly explores a range of styles, from realism to cathedral-like compositions, to his most recent evolution: a liberated explosion of layered, mixed media.
Working from his studio in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Byrun continues to push the boundaries of his craft, exploring the edges of the subconscious and the interplay between personal healing and collective experience. Recently, he has surrendered even more deeply to his creative process, embracing immediacy and visceral intensity, allowing colors to mix freely and intuitively. His primary medium is oil pastel, occasionally complemented by acrylic highlights.
